I remember when Stanislaus County was mostly White, and most of it quite decent. Visited Modesto a few times a year, and Oakdale every couple of years.

West Modesto started going completely Brown in the 1990s. Visited a colleague's property in 1997 there, and armed security was needed at night. Didn't get to Newman much, but it, like nearby Crows Landing and Patterson, was White in my childhood. The John Deere dealer on Crows Landing Road was the best within 100 miles of my hometown, so we visited there frequently instead of closer dealers.

I often feel like one of the Oder-Neiße Germans must have felt, longing to be able to "go home" one day...but that home doesn't exist anymore.
