MILFORD -
Milford police employed heavy security at the Connecticut Post Mall Thursday in the wake of a hectic day after Christmas that saw several fights and some injuries.
Milford police say they placed six to eight of their officers at the mall through the weekend. They also will add patrols in the area.
Authorities say several fights broke out in the mall Thursday night among teens. The brawls led to two security guards suffering minor injuries and one juvenile being arrested.
The mall ended up closing around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, 90 minutes ahead of schedule.

Police do not think the fights were planned, but suspect it was due to kids on school break out looking for something to do.
Fights also broke out in Manchester at the Buckland Hills Mall Wednesday according to police, but they had no direct connection to the issues at the Connecticut Post Mall.

Police estimated several hundred people were brawling and causing disturbances at the mall as others simply tried to exchange Christmas gifts and take advantage of day-after-Christmas sales. The six Manchester police officers working a special assignment at the mall called for backup and soon Manchester police asked for assistance from nearby towns.
A 17-year-old boy was also charged when he was found with a loaded handgun, police said.
Manchester police Lt. Ryan Shea estimated 200-300 people, mostly juveniles, were involved in the disturbance, which began about 6 p.m. The incident was over in about 30 minutes and police said everything was under control by 7 p.m. No one was injured.
At nearly the same time, a series of large fights erupted at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, more than 50 miles away. Police said the mall was closed as they filtered people out safely. The incidents aren’t believed to be connected.
