The California DOJ (Department of Justice) came to the home (in an unmarked Dodge truck) of a California gun owner and confiscated two AR pistols which he had attempted to register several months prior. The officers incited "Manufacturing of a unsafe pistol that had not gone through the California drop safety test" but did not arrest the owner.
Due to various legislation, California has banned all new manufacture modern handguns since 2013 via a Registry of ""Unsafe"" Firearms enacted under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
This systematic ban was ostensibly originally about "drop testing" but became the inevitable outright blanket ban by adding "mission impossible" requirements (microatamping).
The "compromise" in the 1968 GCA requiring FFLs, serialization of all firearms, etc allowed American citizens to still gunsmith their own firearms. This exists, or used to, in California.
Due to recent legislation, now you have to obtain pre-approval from the California government to make your own firearms at home.
They also required those who made their own to REGISTER with the state, submit photos of their firearms, and surrender them if they had "evil features" like a removable magazine, or an adjustable stock.
This gentleman attempted to follow the law, and this lead to his firearms being taken by the government by force.
Things are getting serious here in CA.
