This is a huge deal apparently. I feel bad and all if it's legit but could be another stunt... idonno. They are playing the 'poor family, child card' now.

Image of dead father, daughter at US-Mexico border draws reactions from around the world

A harrowing image of an El Salvadoran migrant (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/immigration) and his 2-year-old daughter lying face down on the banks of the Rio Grande River in Mexico after drowning is highlighting the risks that those face while trying to enter America – and is drawing reactions from presidential candidates to the Pope.
The photograph, captured Monday by journalist Julia Le Duc and published by Mexican newspaper La Jornada, shows the bodies of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his daughter Valeria, who washed up ashore about a half mile away from international bridge (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/immigration/border-security)that connects Matamoros, Mexico, and Brownsville, Texas. One of the image’s most striking features is that Valeria’s arm is draped around the neck of her father.

"I was drawn to the girl's arm on her father," Le Duc told the Associated Press as she described arriving at the scene. "It was something that moved me in the extreme because it reflects that until her last breath, she was joined to him not only by the shirt but also in that embrace in which they passed together into death."
According to Le Duc's reporting for La Jornada, Ramírez, 25, was frustrated that his family from El Salvador was unable to present themselves to U.S. authorities and request asylum – and decided to swim across the Rio Grande River on Sunday with Valeria.

He initially made it to the American side with Valeria and dropped her off there, before starting to return to help the next person who wanted to cross -- his wife, 21-year-old Tania Vanessa Ávalos.

But Ramirez’s daughter then entered the water after seeing him leave, the reporting said. Martínez returned and was able to grab Valeria, yet the current swept them both away and they drowned.

The photographer’s account, according to the Associated Press, was based on remarks by Ávalos to police at the scene -- "amid tears" and "screams" -- Le Duc said.

Details of the incident also were confirmed Tuesday by a Tamaulipas government official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, and by Martínez's mother back in El Salvador, Rosa Ramírez, who spoke with her daughter-in-law by phone afterward.

"When the girl jumped in is when he tried to reach her, but when he tried to grab the girl, he went in further ... and he couldn't get out," Ramírez told the Associated Press.

From the scorching Sonoran Desert to the fast-moving Rio Grande, the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border has long been an at times deadly crossing between ports of entry. A total of 283 migrant deaths were recorded last year; the toll so far this year has not been released. Many attempt the dangerous journey to flee poverty and violence in their home countries.

In recent weeks alone, two babies, a toddler and a woman were found dead on Sunday, overcome by the sweltering heat; elsewhere three children and an adult from Honduras died in April after their raft capsized on the Rio Grande; and a 6-year-old from India was found dead earlier this month in Arizona, where temperatures routinely soar well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tamaulipas immigration and civil defense officials have toured shelters beginning weeks ago to warn against attempting to cross the river said to be swollen with water released from dams for irrigation. On the surface, the Rio Grande appears placid, but strong currents run beneath.

These families seeking asylum are often fleeing extreme violence. And what happens when they arrive? Trump says, 'Go back to where you came from.' That is inhumane. Children are dying. El Salvador's foreign ministry said it was working to assist the Ramirez family including Ávalos, who was at a border migrant shelter following the drownings. The bodies were expected to be flown to El Salvador Thursday.

"Very regrettable that this would happen," Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tuesday in response to a question about the photograph. "We have always denounced that as there is more rejection in the United States, there are people who lose their lives in the desert or crossing" the river.

Rep. Hurd says border facilities that are not designed for detention are being overwhelmed (http://video.foxnews.com/v/6052196866001)

The U.S. asylum system needs to be streamlined, says Texas Congressman Will Hurd, Republican member of the House Appropriations Committee.

Pope Francis, after seeing the image, was “profoundly saddened by their death, and is praying for them and for all migrants who have lost their lives while seeking to flee war and misery,” the Vatican (https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2019-06/pope-sorrow-death-migrants-death-united-states-mexico-border.print.html) said.

Jessica Vaughan, an official with the Center for Immigration Studies, told Fox News that while the photo is “heartbreaking,” lawmakers and activists need to shift their focus on working toward reducing the flow of migrants coming to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Of course we should provide adequate care to migrants who come into our custody, but the real goal must be to end the policies that are encouraging people to make the dangerous choice of trying to come here illegally,” she said.

“Specifically, we need to work with Mexico and the Central American countries to discourage the illegal migration, as the Trump administration has done, but we also need to negate the judge’s ruling that requires the government to keep releasing anyone who crosses with a child… so that people in their home countries see that this is no longer an option worth risking their lives for,” added Vaughan, who is the center’s director of policy studies.

The image also drew reactions from Democratic presidential candidates gearing up for a 2020 election season in which immigration is expected to be a key issue.

“These families seeking asylum are often fleeing extreme violence. And what happens when they arrive? Trump says, 'Go back to where you came from.' That is inhumane. Children are dying. This is a stain on our moral conscience,” Sen. Kamala Harris tweeted.

“Trump is responsible for these deaths,” added Beto O’Rourke in another tweet (https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1143698385054179328).

Only question is if the death percentages are higher when staying where there was "violence" in El Salvador.

That answer does niether political party any good though.

This is the American version of the small boy drowned off Greece’s coast 3 years ago. This is how they sell mass migration to the population.

Another case came to my mind. The young teary eyed ‘nurse’ (who was actually a Kuwaiti princess in London at the time of Iraq invasion. She claimed that the Iraqi soldiers came into the hospital and threw the babies to die on the floor while they stole the incubators. This shifted American attitude markedly in favor of invasion.

Simply put we are suckers for dead babies, whether real or not they use this to shift public opinion re issues up for decision.

This new type of warfare makes one dead baby equal to hundreds of thousands of dead soldiers.

It's really Mexico's fault. Mexico needs to help these migrants who are on their land. There's nothing we can do if it's so bad there, people will risk drowning to escape Mexico. Maybe we should build a wall on the other side of the Rio Grande to help discourage them.

You mean El Salvador or Guatemala, in which case you would need Mexico's permission.

It isn't so bad, just does not have the bait handouts that U.S. offers fisherman.

possibly better depending the view, government's compassion and "to build walls" killed all these children.

What I'm saying...is Mexico let these people from El Salvador and Guatemala into their country, and Mexico is not helping them. In fact, it's so bad they are risking their lives to escape Mexico now. We help every migrant we willing let into the US, why can't Mexico do the same?

What if you willing let a homeless guy, into your home. Then, you treat that guy so badly he risks his life trying to escape your home. That's basically what's happening down there on the boarder.

Yup, that's what I was thinking of too. And I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere about that one being staged, and I'm sure the recent one at the US-Mexico border was staged too. Maybe they did it so they could talk about it at the debates.

If you take this recent example, it cant be stressed enough that women and minorities in U.S. and Europe have been presented carte blanche when comparing rest of the alpha male world. And why father's would take that trip with their daughters.

Carte blanche is experiencing difficulties as of late, Trump is the period of its sentance.

They should make it illegal to swim across the Rio Grande river, because it's so dangerous. Oh wait, that actually is illegal, because it actually is dangerous. If they weren't hell bent on illegally entering the country, they wouldn't be doing such illegal (dangerous) things.

"PROOF" THIS REALLY IS CLOWN WORLD (https://nymag.com/intelligencer/_pages/cjxg9ymru007yl6y6zstts42l.html)

"What emerged was their core message to the world: Get here without papers and you’ll receive humane treatment while you’re processed, you’ll never be detained, you’ll get work permits immediately, and you’ll have access to publicly funded health care and a path to citizenship if you don’t commit a crime. This amounts to an open invitation to anyone on the planet to just show up and cross the border. The worst that can happen is you get denied asylum by a judge, in which case you can just disappear and there’s a 1 percent chance that you’ll be caught in a given year. Who wouldn’t take those odds?"

Asylum from living a normal life of low expectations in El Salvador or Guatemala is all.

When borders were loose and fluid and economy supplied basic needs there wasn't much an issue.

Today with a paper thin dollar and tightening borders across the entire spectrum its turned into a starvation seige mentality everywhere.

The thing is there are no valid asylum seekers from Mexico (apart from perhaps an honest journalist, police or prosecutor who decided to go after the drug cartels), if they come from outside of Mexico, and they have asylum reasons, they should seek it in Mexico if that is where they are.

This is what happened in Sweden 2015 when the hordes went through all of Europe unchecked, they wanted to go to Sweden because they were most likely to have their application approved here, and even if it wasn’t they wouldn’t be sent back, and the social benefits were the best.
