I lived in Oakland County until the age of 29. Berkley (also known as 'Bezerkley') is a working class suburb of Detroit. A very well kept working class suburb.

^ I did my first 2y of full time college @ CSM too (always working P/T during), then did the transfer to CSU -- but quickly lost steam, & didn't finish BA until I was 29yo! Got to working FT during 20s, "just couldn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up?!" - but was making pretty good dough in hotels, Burlingame & downtown SF... bought a studio condo in SF at age 26, with my savings + stock speculation winnings which had become a consuming hobby.

My bellman/doorman peers could attest, I could often be found holed up in the luggage storage room, pouring over the Investor's Business Daily, and/or their "Weekly Charts" book which was quite a spendy subscription. Had Metastock on my badass 386 box with what, 8 MBs ram or something? Laptop I'm banging on now has 8 GB ram, lolz. Automatically downloaded end-of-day quotes from Compuserve (could also use AOL/Prodigy :D). Plus an awesome little program "Technical Analysis Scanner" which I got quite proficient at writing scripts for, which scanned for specific chart/volume patterns. Worked swing shift so I was home watching stocks during market hours. I was consumed with that shit!

But back to CSM, I give 2 thumbs up -- really the whole historically dirt cheap (publicly subsidized) CA Community College system, with transfer after 2y to CSU or UC system where your CC units seamlessly transferred, to complete a 4 year degree with "XYZ Calif University" name on it, was (is?) the thrifty way to get a college indoctrination certificate, for CA residents. I haven't kept up with the fees since I finished; no doubt current classes are getting dinjood after inflation, much worse than I was in '80s-'90s.
