IOTP discusses Australian bush-fire expert David Packham’s research and interviews, a scientist warning this was going to happen for years. David has warned fuel loads in the Australian bush are 10 times greater (causing fire intensity 100 times greater) than they where for the last 30,000 years (indigenous peoples had smaller fires more often), these disaster scale wildfires occur about once in every 30 years (@6:42), any climate change effect is quite minor compared to this land management issue. This forest fuel load problem could have been fixed directly, now, unlike raising energy taxes towards climate change.

Past after fire disaster responses were to increase fire department resources and budgets, not forest management, and fire disasters are not reduced (@26). Since ministers and scientific bureaucrats did not listen to the warnings these people need to be referred to a court. IOTP continues we are not going to get real change in government until politicians and bureaucrats go to jail for gross negligence or incompetence. Just as if we see a catastrophic economic event government people need to go to jail and be held accountable for not listening to people with an alternative point of view who are clearly knowledgable in their area of expertise (@28:45).
