From reading the linked article I cannot determine what is suspected.

The church was somehow very much in communication with the Saints owners before it compiled a list of pedophiles apparently required by a law enforcement investigation of the church.
My two guesses are that somehow the Saints is motivated to keep certain names off the list and is helping pay the big bucks needed by the church to defend itself.

Another possibility is that the names wanted to be kept off the list are closely associated with the Saints, possibly even team players.

Need more information because all is know at this point is that the Saints employee made about 250 phone calls the diocese officials.
