People are so gullible.

I noticed even when I was much younger that the product being sold was superfluous and was not the center of the value for the companies. Alex Jones and the GCN network used to sell some very expensive vitamins but now all of that disappeared.

Our Secretary of Education's husband makes his millions with Amway MLM.

Excellent articles on this website regarding how these pyramid / ponzi schemes avoid being convicted.

Dachsie fleshes this out a little. (I notice I seem to be kind of a scam detective mindset but that comes from starting to learn about scams at the state government level. Auditor at heart.)

Alex Jones / Infowars used to be, like 8 years ago or so, heavily involved with Youngevity MLM products with much emphasis on one product, Tangy Tangerine, also pushing expensive packs of products featuring the "mighty 90." Also touted a magic ingredient called "ancient minerals" or "rare earth minerals."
Alex Jones, Inc. got wise and realized he could sell his own pills direct and make the most money, hence Brain Force etc... He is still going strong on that even though his show is not so widely available now. We used to hear the show live locally on our car radios but that broadcasting company fm station is no longer received in my neighborhood.

One of the super snake oil hucksters of all time, verterinarian Dr. Joel Wallach, Youngevity founder, was their top promo man, of "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" fame.

Dr. Peter Glidden pushing these products on his own branch of the MLM tree or line. Last I heard of him he was a sponsor of the ACH show I think. Pharmacist Ben Fuchs still has his own show on GCN all around the same time. (I did pick up some good tips from listening to his show years ago that did not involve buying the Youngevity products.) The "patriot movement" and the Youngevity scam was a big thing for a long time.

Here is a email response I got from expert Robert FitzPatrick on the MLM scam. Seems these companies bill themselves as "direct sellers" and that is how they have never been convicted on running ponzi schemes.

Regarding Youngevity… This is just another of almost countless schemes based on (1) some health product not available in stores and which is classified as a food supplement so it is not regulated or tested by the Food and Drug Administration (2) joining, paying a fee, buying the product, and also paying monthly fees for internet services to track the program (3) recruiting others to do the same (4) a pyramid pay plan with a formula that ends up transferring the money from newest recruits to the top of the pyramid (the guys that founded the scheme).

Nothing new or different here. It may be that this one is being touted by people you rely on or trust. Sadly, this is true for most such schemes. They are very profitable for people at the top, but ruinous for all others, a money trap.

For more information on how to understand this and all other similar schemes, I suggest you review the resources, "What About This One?"

Sincerely,

Robert L. FitzPatrick, Co-Author.
