Neat. Imagine a raspberry pi tied to a spread spectrum device. You download an app for your smartphone to communicate via bluetooth to the raspberry pi. A friend 2 miles away has a similar setup or maybe you have a dozen neighbors and all are on the same WAN. The cell service to your smartphone goes down but it still works with the WAN.

With LoRa you aren't restricted to 2 miles. These networks work 300 to 400 miles or further with low power and low speed. Password protected as well for truly private and license free operation.

There are many youtube videos on the topic. Just search LoRa WAN.

About 15 or twenty years ago I saved some information on a similar private point to point Linux WAN system that was severely limited to distance and also depended on the next person in the link using a Linux system. Advancements in the technology have made it viable.
