The Wall Street mafia doesn't like the way mom and pop retail investors are playing the game, so now they are changing the rules.
They are calling day traders a "mob".
Hedge funds don't like common people cutting in on their scam, where they short stocks, talk them down and buy them up again, profiting from both trades.
Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to short stocks anymore and then scare people out of their investment? These people are scum!

In Unprecedented Move, TD Ameritrade Puts "Restrictions" On Transactions In GME, AMC

With the move higher in GME seemingly unstoppable...

... and with the SEC silent and refusing to step in and bailout the millions of shorts who remain trampled by the short squeeze stampede, the exchanges have decided to step in and moments ago TD Ameritrade was the first brokerage to announce that "in the interest of mitigating risk for our company and clients", the company has put in place several restrictions in GME, AMC and other securities.

The brokerage said that it imposed these unprecedented unilateral - as in not mandated by either a regulator or the government - actions "out of an abundance of caution amid unprecedented market conditions and other factors."

Expect many more exchanges to follow suit, because hedge funds clearly need to be protected when faced with the retail daytrading mob.

Meanwhile, with nobody there to bail them out, the basket of top hedge fund favorites, the Goldman hedge fund VIP stock basket, is plumbing new lows as fears of wholesale liquidations grow as the Goldman basket of most shorted names keeps rising ever higher, a divergence that has made regular readers - who read our November hedge fund summary post - rich, after we said "our advice is to go long the most hated names and short the most popular ones - a strategy that has generated alpha without fail for the past 7 years, ever since we first recommended it back in 2013."

Better optics than just the platform going down during high volatility.

This has happened to at least one other platform besides Robinhood.

Maybe all of them are having issues today??

Update (1131 ET): Bloomberg reports the Ameritrade disruption could be due to "unprecedented volumes" of users attempting to access "its mobile app."

... and why would retail be rushing to mobile trading apps?

Well, to trade Gamespot (https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/gamespot-chaos-stock-hits-365-then-dips-after-report-melvin-citron-cover-shorts), of course.

Update (1010 ET): Add Vanguard, TD Bank, Interactive Brokers, Webull, and Merill to the list of retail brokerages experiencing outages or problems this morning.

When the market crash comes, and it will, this shows retail investors won't be getting out as their stocks are crashing.

When they run for the exits, the exits will be scaled down to trap the cattle.

I hope they feel like I did when they wiped my ass out. I hope they get no fuking bail outs.

Edit: Oops, I meant I hope the hedge funds get fuked. The retail investors will get fleeced as usual.

What restrictions did Ameritrade impose? Can you not purchase those stocks now? Soundsripe for a lawsuit.
