today I got online and it seems like my computer has been wiped clean. I have no idea what happened. I got on and firefox acted like I was new and all my saved pages/sites/favorites were all gone.
then I went into word and all my documents are gone.

I have no idea what happened.

any ideas?

Have you ever heard of this before? I feel like I'm going insane!!!

It has happened to me twice. I never knew if somebody somehow got into my computers or whether my files simply corrupted organically. It does happen but I ended up needing to scrap my computers because I am no computer whiz and it is cheaper to start anew.

Not as of yet. That sucks big time.

You may have options. Some computers have a go-back function that will restore everything to a past date.

Have you tried a restore function?

okay, that's what I was thinking. I've done that before, but I can't remember. I might just call geeksquad and see if they can help me (I think this is my only hope of getting my info back and I don't want to screw it up). I'm completely SHOCKED!! And I had so much info in word (all my covid flyers, 70 pages of links on covid truth) and it's all completely gone. My computer is acting like it's never been used before.

Have you been using a VPN?

No. I had that on my to-do list. Same for getting off of firefox and using something else (forget the name of it). Then I got my back problem and nothing got done for weeks.

Look into Opera. It has a built in VPN you can turn on/off.

Thanks! I think that's the one that someone recommended.

There are free to download file recovery tools on line. But first use Windows restore feature. Hopefully you have a recent restore point.

puters regularly save restore files - and never delete them -- so much saving that it will clog your memory if you have the puter for many years

they are listed by date in some file

never wanted to know that - but had to

I use a USB disc drive for backing up my data. The one I have now is a Western Digital 1terabyte drive that cost about $50.00

Sounds like you have malware. Do Not Reboot before you run a bunch of malware programs. Malwarbytes is a start and look farther and clean. If you reboot whatever may be in there can go farther. I dealt with this shit a few times, that's why I stick with XP. No one tries to fuck with such an old OS. Always back your files up on a 2nd drive so if the computer totaly is jacked you can reinstall OS and still have your crap on the extra drive.

Good luck and I hope you can fix this.

Stay AWAY from geek squad. They
took a friends laptop and copied the files and sent them to the fbi because she was a firebrand for truth . Sound familiar? And, welcome back stranger.

If its windblows, get an external hard drive & make an drive image backup every 5 months or so, you will use it every 3yrs. or so.

All the web browsers store most any or all info. Online anymore, you may be able to find those logging into yours at a different machine.
