Halfway through, I now see why gift cards are such a big business, corporations create the 'credit' on the gift cards out of thin air, no need for the Fed to create out of thin air.

When you buy something on credit you create that money out of thin air. Unlike the gift card you must repay the lender the money you just created plus interest.
