This statement below the vid is false and misleading. The ring blew off the wheel because the lock ring wasn't properly seated in the groove. The boy filling the tire should have turned it over and inflated it from beside the tire instead of being over the tire.

A truck mechanic was launched into another dimension when he overfilled a tire, causing it to explode.52 COMMENTS (https://vidmax.com/video/211161-mechanic-filling-a-truck-tire-gets-launched-into-space-when-the-tire-explodes#allComments) VIDMAX

Bad deal all around. I have been that kid doing something similar. Comments on the vid quite frankly are disgusting. Another's misery is nothing to wallow within.

Split rim tires should be outlawed.

Split rim tires should be outlawed.

They have pretty much been replaced by tubeless nowadays.

There are still a few in service. My brother still has an old GMC 10 wheel dump truck with split rims.

From everything I have come across, proper protocol was not followed in this situation...

I read something that it should have been inflated on the truck. The first blow before launch should have been a red flag to stop.

That is the safest way to inflate one. When I was in high school there was a Shell gas station that also sold diesel fuel and repaired split rim truck tires. They had their employees raise the hoist in the lube bay and position the tire beneath the hoist frame and let it down against the rim for safety.

Works like a charm. I've done it once. It scared the shit out of me when it seated the tire. Kabaam!
