Someone I know stopped off at Walmart on his lunch break looking for a single item. He parked his Toyota Tundra and came back about 15 minutes later to find that it had been stripped of the computer, the cat, the driveshaft, and a bunch of sensors - ~$15k in damages, $10,000 of that for OEM parts replaced. He had locked his truck and no glass was broken when they broke in. He would have been much better off insurance claim-wise if they had just stolen it, however this MO apparently has a much better risk/benefit ratio with a lot less hassle than outright stealing it (perhaps the chipped key prevents most if not all thefts). Due to parts shortages he's looking to be without that truck for 3-9 months from what they told him.
