The Army of the United States is one of the four major service components of the United States Army ...it has been inactive since the suspension of the draft in 1973 and the U.S. military's transition to a volunteer force.

There is no equivalent to the Army of the United States in the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. During World War II, officers who joined one of these branches were typically commissioned into the "Naval Reserve," "Marine Corps Reserve," or "Coast Guard Reserve" respectively (the last of these being newly created in the run up to the war), with the understanding that their active service would be only for the duration of the hostilities.

In case the issue is not clear the Army of the United States is NOT the United States Army but is only a component of it. That component is the draftees or voluntary members/reserved who joined up for the immediate action. And this component hasn't been in existence since 1973 when the regular Army became entirely voluntary.

Just thought you should know. The United States Army is composed of career people.

Soldiers of the regular Army have an ID number that begins with RA. The soldiers in the Army Of the United States ID number began with US. My brother told me that signified Undesirable Service.

The regular Army has a lot of fiber in their diet.

And if they aren't regular they derived the concept of "take a high colonic and a 10 mile hike"
