It's not the radiation. It's the EMP (electromagnetic pulse).

I notice the Amish aren't too concerned (maybe because they have nothing electrical). So if an EMP happens I guess I will become Amish.

If your talking from space or weapon the effect of EMP blast on electronics is overhyped and will be very localized if anything like that happens at all. Lots of other more important things to worry about instead of this deliberate distraction.
