Society places the young in an environment where they are denied the fundamental right of self-preservation. Then society refuses to take responsibility for protecting them. Instead the political response to to blame guns and laws regulating them while ignoring their failure to their own duty to protect.

Regulate guns and the rules to obtain them to the hilt and you are still ignoring your own responsibility and duty to protect because whatever you do is not sufficient. The crazies out there will always have access to weapons. If not guns then knives, crossbows or black powder replicas.

Why not give kids the ability to protect themselves? They certainly have the right to do so. Their parents can't. Law enforcement can't. Their teachers can't. Unarmed they are nothing more than targets.

Let 'em have TASERS. If a shooter goes into a classroom with 10 tasers he isn't coming out standing.

Remember "Lazer Tag".

Yeah, kids with tazers would add hundreds of head trauma cases a year.

Easy pickins from theft crews if grannie pisses herself while being tazed by "teens".

Locks on doors are protection from people who respect locks.

If you don't respect locks you are getting in one way or another.

Or are you suggesting that anyone with a taser is going to use it for nefarious purposes?

A short trip from there to "anyone who can protect himself is a criminal".

Kids are dumb and would taze each other.

The solution to this problem is to give parents of children who attend the school full law enforcement authority on the school grounds if there is an active shooter. They would be allowed, and expected to, to carry and use any weapons on campus. They would have higher jurisdiction than police and could not be ordered to stand down.

Parents who want to help would need to self organize and buy the own gear ahead of time. They would also be allowed to own and use any weapons police are, without normal restrictions.

Kids need to be told to call dad not 911.

These are the same kids you are going to send to Uzbekistan in 2032. Dad isn't going to be much help.

They will be crying for Uncle not Daddy.
