Over $1 Million Found In PVC Pipes
Montgo DA and FBI Dig Up Joe Mastronardo's Yard

Sources tell Fox 29 than more than $1 million in cash was found buried in the yard of Joe Mastronardo, the son-in-law of the late Philadephia mayor Frank Rizzo.

Montgomery County investigators and the FBI spent all day Wednesday digging up the backyard of Mastronardo’s Abington home looking for the hidden cash.

Investigators are targeting Mastronardo for the second time in four years.

In 2006, Mastronardo and his brother were arrested in a federal bookmaking scheme. As part of a plea agreement, the brothers agreed to forfeit about $2.7 million dollars.

In a 40-page affidavit that was just released by the DAs office, it revealed that investigators did indeed find over $1 million hidden in sealed PVC pipes in that backyard. Also detailed in the affidavit - wiretap conversations with parties griping about the economy and getting gamblers to pay up big sums of money.

Sources tell Fox 29 Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman and the FBI moved to freeze bank accounts in Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Florida.

John and Joseph Mastronardo are each being held on $1 million bail. Charges filed Thursday include conspiracy, gambling and running a corrupt organization.

Fox 29 spoke exclusively to the Mostronardo's attorney, Dennis Coogan. He stated, "I don't want to hear any more jokes. Eveybody who has talked to me today wants to talk about the Easter egg hunt that they had a Mastronado's house."

The brother's preliminary hearing and bail hearing are set for next week.

To note, sources also told Dave Schratweiser there is an ongoing FBI money laundering investigation at work.
