Cap and Trade: A License Required for your Home

Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Cap and Trade Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. H.R. 2454, the "Cap & Trade" bill passed by the House of Representatives, if also passed by the Senate, will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced.

The Congressional Budget Office (supposedly non-partisan) estimates that in just a few years the average cost to every family of four will be $6,800 per year.

I'm not going to fret about it, unless it IS passed. I think there's enough opposition from both private & corporate interests that it won't see the light of day.

Then again, I thought that about the health care bill too. I'm always amazed what they slither through Congress.

Makes the GIM2 debacle seem like a stubbed toe.
I've been bitching while our house is on fire.

Thanks for the reality check Ponce.

i don't have a link, but i was reading on zero hedge this morning that the health care bill that is already passed has a provision whereby if you sell your house after 2014, there's a 3.8% tax on the gross amount of the sale. not capital gains, the entire amount.

If this is passed it could hurt us all bad.

The bill was approved by a narrow 219-212 vote, sending it to the U.S. Senate for their consideration.
Find out how your Congressman voted here.

I have been kinda worried about this cap and trade thing too.
But I think the Senate has already rejected it once.( i could be wrong)
and now that this "global warming scam" has been exposed.
Hopefully it will be harder to get votes for it.

And I also hope that in November we can get some reps in that would make it even harder to pass this Crap.

If I can't sell my house, I'll burn it to the ground and leave the bank with the bill.

I foretell a whole house/senate cleaning in November. Will Diebold though?

oh, they'll pass it.

only rich people own homes anyway, and they can afford to do the upgrades. it'll play out as some class warfare parlayed with save the planet.

This is the capital gains tax.... see note-

Home sales tax clarified
In his recent guest column regarding the impact of the Health Care Bill, Paul Guppy of the Washington Policy Center claimed that a 3.8% tax on all home sales was a part of the recently passed legislation. This is inaccurate and needs to be corrected. The truth about the bill is that if you sell your home for a profit above the Capitol Gains threshold of $250,000 per individual or $500,000 per couple then you would be required to pay the additional 3.8% tax on any gain realized over this threshold.
Most people who sell their homes will not be impacted by these new regulations. This is not a new tax on every seller, and that correction needs to be made. This tax is aimed at so called “high earners” if you do not fall into that category you will not pay any extra taxes upon the sale of your home.

Ahhhhh remember the " good ole days " when owning your own home was the " American Dream ". My, how the dream is rapidly becoming a nightmare. Sucks to have a government that believes it owns all property and we are just tenants.

Well this is just a symptom of running out of things to tax you see.

Al Gore really is the one all those lawmakers in Washington need to credit with all this dubiously concocted stuff.

It's a perfect scheme you see.

1) Engineer a false crisis
2) Get the public involved/alarmed
3) Demonstrate how hellish it will be if action isn't taken (With fake data)
4) Implement a Government chartered solution (The government can fix anything)
5) Government allows same old same old, but taxes EVERYONE, money goes into general fund, the environment still suffers
6) Profit!
