View Full Version : They won't take my leaves.

I one time raked a whole bunch of leaves up from my yard, and carted the whole mess down to the city dumps, and they told me at the dumps that they couldn't take my un-bagged leaves because city policy dictated that they be placed in plastic bags.

Now I put my leaves in plastic bags, but now I get a big bright green sticker on them telling me they don't take petroleum based bags anymore.

Sounds to me like the City rather than being "Green" is just being lazy. Take that you fucking taxpaying jerk!

Can you provide a picture of the city employees? Yeah I know the outcome.

That is strange.. the one near me makes us take the leaves out of the plastic, dump the leaves in a container, then they toss plastic bags to a different area.. no biggie.

That's just stupid. If they're trying to look out for the environment than they should have you not put the leaves in any bag as they will break down quicker without one.

Further proof that the government is generally run by and full of morons.

Why not compost those leaves and grow a garden from them, or make a worm bed if you go fishing alot? I'd say to hell with their mind games and put those leaves to good use.

I feel your pain Dave.

We haven't had that type of thing happen to us yet, but here in Seattle we have to separate our garbage into 3 different containers (it used to be 5): (1) Yard waste and table scraps. (2) Regular trash. & (3) Recyclables.

Now, we occasionally see the garbagemen looking at our trash to make sure we did everything alright. If we goof up too much--I think it is 10%--they will tag the container and not take it.

I don't know why this bothers me, but it really pisses me off.

There's your answer right there, start a compost bin out back.

Cut out the middleman.

I once reshingled a roof and put all the old shingles in heavy duty bags - gray. Normal trash went in the cheaper bags - white. So the garbage guys would pick up the white bags and leave the gray ones. It took me a while to figure out what it was about. I put the gray bags of shingles in white bags and they would pick those up. I put trash in gray bags and they would leave them. I finally went to the office and asked "WTF?" That's when they told me that they wouldn't pick up shingles. I pointed out that they did pick up shingles in white bags, but they would not pick up gray bags no matter what was in them. They thought that was humorous. So I stopped paying the pickup company and hauled my trash to the dump personally. No fuss at all, and the cost was half what I had been paying.

Gulf Lite, LOLs.

I haven't decided if I'll just leave them on the front lawn, or if I'm going to drive by the DPW late at night and leave them on the side of the road, like poor orphan children.

The above suggestions would work great at any protest! lol

Think leaves are bad? Try getting rid of 20 tires.

I had to.

20 were dumped in the ditch in front of my house. PITA to get rid of.

I hit em with the lawnmower. It sucks them all up and shreds them into the collector bag for compost. But the bulk of it I just recirculate and shred back into the lawn as free nitrogen. Before I started doing this I would get about 20+ bags at the curb, now it all goes back into my property.

All that energy is being carried off your land and has to be returned back in the form of $$$. Self sustain.
