One of my neighbors has been stressing out for over a year, trying to keep up with the mortgage and bills. He has started the bankruptcy process and is much calmer now.

The interesting thing about this bankruptcy thing is that it's happening AFTER they changed the laws, making it more difficult to file. And filings are STILL through the roof. It's much worse than the numbers suggest.

Exactly. MISH had a great post about this a few days ago. Thing to note about the month to month stats is that March had several more business days than February which skewed the info a little.

Wait until those 200,000 "late" unemployment extensions hit the books.

Wait until the pinch from the recently cut off extended recipients hits!

Nearly 400,000 jobless Americans are going to see their long-term unemployment benefits cut off after Congress failed to pass a short-term extension before taking a two-week break.
