View Full Version : Any thoughts on Canada and their hologram coins?

I recently picked up a 2003 Year of the Ram gold hologram coin for what I would consider to be a pretty good deal. It's kind of cheesey yet kind of cool. But what I wonder is how it will hold up over decades?

What say you? A gimick that will fade away or should have faded away already or something that's actually kind of cool?

Never heard of them till now. I think they look pretty cool looking based on the pictures of them I found. I might just have to pick one up soon. Too bad they still have the ugly c*** on the other side.

If regular gold isn't shiny enough for you, and you want to buy hologram gold, check out kinebars:

Not quite numismatic, but not quite straight bullion either.

The holograms never look as nice as they do in the picture but you'd think with a hologram on it there'd be less doubts as to the authenticity of the coin when you went to sell it.

It's hard for me to believe that the tiny lines making up the hologram will withstand much wear & tear. Maybe it would be good for a coin left in a slab, but not for anything that will be circulated.
