pretty cool looking.

first the proverbial Rothschild gold bar, 5 Tola & .996 Fine - this is an antique bar with about 1.8 Troy ounces of gold.

They are nice; however, FOUR US MINT America Gold 1 OZ. Eagles are 100 times more FUNGIBLE

(easier to trade, cash, exchange, recognize, and little things like that - sorry)

True, the right buyer would pay a hefty premium however.

Very cool unique bars, thank you for posting.

Very true what you say about fungibility. But it is a NICE feeling holding one of these cast, as opposed to minted, bars in ones hand. One day (in my dreams) I hope to get hold of a poured kilo gold bar, just to swing around. Undoubtedly it must feel like treasure recovered from a sunken ship.

i think these are sort of Mid-East oriented. like this is the size they use in India or Thailand or something.

Yes, it would be fun to serve those Tola bars for breakfast.

They had rounded corners for smuggling in an otherwise uncomfortable place. They are still available. If I am ever over there I will get one.

They're quite common outside of North America. All the large European refineries have or presently produce tola bars, and I know some banks in Switzerland still sell them over the counter. Until the Krugerrand and subsequent 1 ozt coins became ubiquitous, one would still sometimes see gold prices quotes in tolas. There are large gold bourses and traders all over the world that trade tola bars regularly. It's common in gold shops in the Middle East, India, and Singapore to find tola bars in abundance but a rare thing to see an American Eagle or a Canadian Maple Leaf. Keep in mind that although there is an international standard for the tola, in some parts of the world the tola may be a specific local weight.

i found this picture of a 100 gram bar, similar to a Tola bar -

http://www.apmex.com/Resources/Catalog%20Images/Products/45792_Obv.jpg

so that's 53 x 100 grams in the pic, 170 Troy Ounces, almost 12 pounds.

so although those aren't exactly 10 Tola bars ... i still thought it was a good pic.

so a 10 Tola bar is 116.6 grams.

The 100 gram bars are some of the most preferred and, in my opinion, lovely gold bars around. PAMP Suisse, especially, make some of the finest. Great pics! If I had a choice between buying 10 tola bars and 100 gram bars, I'd buy the 100 gram bars. Nothing against the the tola bars per se, but gram units are more universal.

I just love poured gold bars in general, but I definitely want those!

I agree about the 100 gram bars. They are the perfect size for larger trades.
