Forums send your new/changed password confirmation to your email. So write it down offline, delete the email upon receipt, and empty your delete bin (although it still then sits in a yahoo/etc bit bucket on their server). I expect they can still intercept your junk in a variety of ways, but may as well make them work a little harder for it. ::)

Ya get what you pay for... free, private e-mail is an oxymoron.

Domains and hosting are cheap. Acquire one, make ownership private and you'll have the ability to create numerous, private e-mail addresses.

All the same - nothing is truly private on the internet. Most ISP's and hosts will capitulate with just about any .gov demand for info.

The only thing still private these days are the conversations in your head - and they're already working hard on that.

"Unless you configure Google Desktop very carefully, and few people will, Google will have copies of your tax returns, love letters, business records, financial and medical files, and whatever other text-based documents the Desktop software can index. The government could then demand these personal files with only a subpoena rather than the search warrant it would need to seize the same things from your home or business, and in many cases you wouldn't even be notified in time to challenge it. Other litigants--your spouse, your business partners or rivals, whomever--could also try to cut out the middleman (you) and subpoena Google for your files."
