Well, about a month before GIM went down I put in my first premanent raised bed. I had done pots for a few years prior. I had a thread on GIM about it, but you know.....

Anyways, its been a bout a month and a half since I put the first plants in the ground and I am so far very happy with the results.

Here it is from the front:

On the left is:
Oregano, Basil, Garlic Chives, Rosemary, Lavender (its hard to see, its young) Parsley in the front, Cilantro just behind it and Radishes and Stevia behind that in the rear.
Two tomatoe plants, Roma and Homestead (have another two in pots).
Peas in the far upper right corner.
More radishes and carrots infront of the peas (Still young).
Red Beauty bell peppers and sweet banana peppers infront of that.

Under the plastic are 4 square feet of Okra seeds waiting to sprout. I put them under plastic because we've been getitng some heavy overcast days and really heavy rains, as south florida is known for, so this will keep the rain from matting down the bare soil making it hard for the seedlings to come up, and keep from over watering them causing the seeds to rot.

I pulled my first couple radishes up today to see how far along the crop is. Its getting close, I'd give it just a little longer, but Im happy with the results.

its my first time growing them. I dont even really like them all that much, but its always fun to grow food and learn something new.

Thanks for the update. I remember your posts from the old site, and I was thinking about it today. I spent this afternoon building similar raised beds along my back wrought iron fence. My primary purpose is drainage control, since I get a heavy flow of water off the common area slope on the other side of the fence. The benefit I got was new beds for veggies. I planted okra and purple tepee bush bean seeds today.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I am hoping to put a second bed in behind this one after removing that tree that you see there in the back, as it is blocking all my late morning and afternoon light and with the oak tree infront of it back in full bloom now, theres an almost permanent shadow over the garden starting about 2 weeks ago.

I was very suprised how fast it took off. The weather has been fantastic (for plants) latley. Mid 70's to low 80's 50-75% humidity. Perfect for spring and summer plants.

Here is a picture taken on March 2nd, the first day I got plants in the ground.

The lettuce and cabbage were removed the other day as what was left of the lettuce after a few salads bolted and the we used up what cabbage we could and gave some away.

You've done a great job honey! Out there everyday pruning, weeding, watering, etc. Now we just need some good recipes for radishes. Can't say they're my favorite, but I think if they are cooked the right way they'll taste better than just raw.
