Anyone have any unusual pets?

We have Bearded dragons

Here a picture we took yesterday of one of them

This is when they were a bit smaller (a month ago)

They are pretty cool. Very alert and friendly too.

This how the sleep sometimes

My daughter and I have a hedgehog named Fritz. No pix right now and I don't want to wake him up. Neat little creatures , inquisitive and low maintenance. I'll post a picture when my daughter gets home. We need to clean his cage tonight so that is a good excuse.

I assume by saying 'they', you are including the cat. ;D

Someone seems very interested in what is going on inside that glass.

Be careful or the cat may leave you a present of a dead lizard. I know this as I've had my cat leave me gifts like this before. Lizard vs. Cat is a bad pairing. lol

And nice job on the terrain. Looks much better than most I've seen. The pets seem well taken care of.

thanks Grog :)
The cat loves it! After a week he has still not lost interest in them.
He watches them practically all day. :)

the dragons like to take a bath too.

Cool pets, and cool terrarium. You guys put a lot of work into that. I am sure they love it.

I don't have any unusual pets, but I would love to have a sugar glider. I will get one someday.

Those are really cool and bush babies too.
or a hedge hog

We would like to have one or all of those...lol

But you can't buy them in Commifornia

You can buy the food for them in the local pets shops though ???

Maybe if we go out of state some day.

We love us some pets :)

I would also love to have a family of meerkats. Having one would be cruel, since they're very social. That's very convenient for me . . . because I love animals too. The more, the merrier.

OK, so these guys are not my pets, but I just discovered them today. One is a snail that I thought was cool on my mailbox. The other is a turtle/tortoise (I am no expert) . . . outside my bedroom window about ten minutes ago. I am very excited about the turtle, but when I went to get the dogs to see what they would do around it, he was gone. Smart turtle.

It's weird because I have been hearing something in the bamboo outside my window for about a week. I keep expecting it to be a bird because I have so many cardinals here. It was the same noise that alerted me to the turtle today, so I think it's him, walking on the bamboo leaves. I just wasn't looking for something that looks essentially like a rock.

I know people have much cooler animals in their yard when they live out in the woods. But I get excited over the littlest things.

Taken with my crappy cell phone camera, because it's better than my crappy regular camera.

This is not my pet either, but I rescued him from my patio one day. He kept trying to get out of the screen and was just slamming against it one side, then another. Poor guy. The dogs were yapping at him, and it must have been very scary. He was exhausted, and I had to grab him to get him out.

But not before I got my camera (phone) out to take this picture of him.

Sorry I hijacked your thread about actual unusual pets. I'll stop.

My daughter and I have a hedgehog named Fritz.

Finally got around to taking a picture. A hard thing to do, Fritz is a fast little booger. Most of the pics I took were blurry. He is a whirlwind of spiky action.

I love taking pictures of whatever I find on my property. It's a unique area surrounded by city, but somehow has remained a little wild. Lots of big spiders, snakes, dragonflies, birds (owls even!), iguanas and now a turtle.

I just found out that the turtle I posted is a Florida Box Turtle which is illegal. Upon researching the legalities, it says it is illegal to own one for sale or profit. I am hoping that it is OK if he just lives here, since I didn't catch him. I just took the picture and let him go.

I posted this on another thread and remembered it when I saw the little guy:

I'm reminded of that oft-quoted Archilochus line:
The fox knows many small things, whereas the hedgehog knows one great thing.

There are lots of cute videos on youtube...
The one where the hedgehog in the bath tub is funny.

My wife wants to drive to the next state to get one now...lol

A friend owns a local exotic store. They do kids b-day parties and such. Had hedgies at one and I held and played with it. Too cute, had to get one.

Bought Fritz that weekend.

The term from Cute Overload is "Moist Nosecicle" lol

they are funny and snuffly. If you do get one, a cool trick to get them accustomed to you is to put a piece of your clothing in their cage for them to sleep in. I used an old hat. Fritz got used to my smell. Puffs up, spikes out, at my wife but is totally cool with my daughter and I as he knows our scent.

I like that big grey cat. It's just like mine except mine is 23.5 lbs and will steal your food.

I don't have any exotic pets but I have lizards all over the place. The other night I was walking down my halway and saw one climb into my smoke detector to hide from me. Freakin' lizards are ridiculous here in AZ.

I've almost never housed anything other than dogs and cats. But speaking about animals in their natural habitat.

Purple Martins in Texas and Dolphins in Florida were some of the greatest wildlife that have ever glanced my way.

About the Dolphins, when I was camping with my son on the edge of Florida Bay (Gulf of Mexico) in Everglades National Park. Early in the morning, while my son was still sleeping, and I was drinking a cup of coffee, a mother and calf came into shallow water nearby our chickee hut, the mother Dolphin kept making a small circle in the mud with her nose and a single mullet, which the mother had trapped, would jump over the mud ring, whereupon the mother would flick the mullet, mid-air with her nose. Clearly it was a lesson for her calf.

And I remember the mother Dolphin looking squarely at me with one eye, and she knew I was looking back at her.

And at sunset, I could see several Dolphins jumping and flipping in the air, at a distance, it was awesome!
