Did you guys know that you can grow a fruit tree in cold climates that has a fruit that looks like a mango, but has a Banana custard type interior? also known as the Michigan Banana or Hoosier Banana ,the paw Paw produces tennis ball sized fruits! They do spoil rapidly, but can be used in banana recipes and are a very hardy tree! We just planted a few of them here in MI and look forward to next year.

Deer and other animals will eat them fast. You can't wait for the fruit to fall, shake the trees in mid to late August.

Finding them in the wild is hard because they ripen, spoil, and get eaten quickly.

I planted two. They are still small, but hopefully I may get fruit this year. How big do they have to be to fruit?

They grow wild here in the east and I have eaten many of them over the years... very interesting fruit. They seem to like lowlands and moisture.
