Hi, I hope this is ok in General Discussion?

I didn't see a Music forum.

Looking to buy these http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/General/Product.aspx?PId=268&MId=3
for live music reinforcement.

Does anyone have opinions on this kind of gear?

If you have champagne tastes and a beer budget, you might consider DIY.
A good source for plans and support:

These cabinets caused me cognitive dissonance, at first glance. It took me awhile to comprehend what I was looking at.

In a nutshell, they're folded horns, of varying complexity. The most efficient are usually the most complex. The arrays of piezo tweeters are also odd. They are front facing, cross fired, or melded arrays. Very unusual, to say the least.

Check out :
DR200 (8" woofer), Titan 39 (10" woofer).

If you search the net, you can find reviews and interesting comments pro and con. Some of the pro audio sites sneer at BFD speakers. Others laud them. In any case, they create controversy.

Did I mention that they were LOUD?
Loud as in "put wee power in - MONSTER AUDIO OUTPUT..."

From DR200 blurb:
Average sensitivity is 104dB per watt, at least 6dB higher than the typical $600-$1200 PA speaker. What’s that mean to you? A DR200 with 100 watts input is as loud as the average PA speaker with 400 watts input. In fact, the horn loaded design is so efficient that it can get more out of its single 8 inch driver than typical PAs get with a twelve. Plus, unlike any commercial PA cab, the DR200's bass response is easily adjustable, for maximum sensitivity and extension whether used with or without subs.

FYI - at 100W input, that's 124dB spl, at 1 m.
(120 dB may cause hearing damage)

:o

I'm a JBL fan. I have these and love them. Had to dig around on Amazon through my purchase history to find them.

JBL is great with providing accessories and being dependable. Sound is wonderful and cannot complain in any manner. I'm running these with a $200.00 Sony 6.1 receiver I grabbed at a pawnshop and it totally meets my needs.

If I had to start over and was going to buy a completely new home system I'd get JBL speakers again without a single hesitation. Receiver would make me pause and TV as well.. but speakers I wouldn't change a thing. Love 'em.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere and this has been on my mind.

Don't judge a 'book' by it's cover - :oo-->

Also, I'm looking for more than home theater stuff. This is for live
band type stuff.

What attracts me to these JBL's is that they are light weight. I don't
want to be carrying too much weight.

So what do you recommend?

I've checked out the Mackie 450v2's - they are 12" with a tweet.

Reason I was considering the JBL's is the 15" main.

... was a lil harsh on the jbl's....theyll do in a pinch, although some American made srm 450's ( mackie) are better imo...
the 15" speakers on the jbl just make them bulkier...12's are PERFECT for vocal ranges ...jmho.
