I'm guessing that because of the marketing, those who buy the Smart Car think they are being really smart by doing so. Or is it named Smart Car because it smarts when you get into an accident which would be survivable in a full size car?

In the mid-70s I recall driving by an accident scene where one of those Honda Z600 micro cars was turned into an empty tube of tubepaste by the rear trailer wheels of an 18-wheeler - it was about as flat as it could be (it was the same color blue as this one).

God how horrible.

Maybe when Oil goes to 300 dollars a barrel it'll be safe enough to drive a little roller skate around.

I used to drive a Fiat sport car. I was terrified by hub caps and guard rails. That was all I could usually see while driving!

That's a very unfortunate accident. I'm no fan of smart cars, but they are actually renowned for being incredibly strong for their size. Any car would have been in trouble in that accident.
