COLLEGE PARK, Md. -The FBI is investigating the beating of a University of Maryland student during a rowdy basketball victory celebration.
Agents will review the video of the officers in riot gear striking the student with batons, as well as other evidence, WTOP has learned.
FBI Special Agent Rich Wolf, a spokesman for the bureau's Baltimore field office, confirms to WTOP that investigation is underway.
From the findings, the Justice Department will determine whether there was a violation of federal civil rights laws.
Prince George's County's Police Chief Roberto Hylton says he's disappointed with the police officers involved.
"We have suspended one of the officers involved in the incident, and we expect some additional suspensions," Hylton says.
Hylton would not identify the suspended officer, and would not say how many officers are under investigation. He says several officers have been interviewed in connection with the probe.
