1970 Silver Art
16th April 2010, 03:42 PM
Today I went to a coin show in Dalton, Georgia called the 46th Georgia Numismatic Show to look for and buy some more '70's silver art bars. As I was looking for specific '70's silver art bars to collect, I noticed and asked certain dealers about some prices on certain gold and silver coins and bars. When I left this morning (about 9:25 AM) to head to the coin show, spot silver was around $18.15/oz and spot gold was around $1147/oz.

Apparently the spot prices fell throughout the day while I was at the coin show (spot silver ended at $17.70/oz and spot old ended at $1136.80/oz) Here are some prices that I found at this coin show:

SAE's = $21 to $24

1-oz .999 Generic silver and 1-oz Engelhard silver bars = $18.00 to $20

1-oz silver art bars = $18.00 to $20 (Most art bars were $20 but certain hard-to-find '70's SABs were about $30, some were at $35 depending on the silver art bar)

Silver Maple Leafs = $20 to $20.50

1/10 oz gold Maple leaf = $130.00

1-oz GAE = $1200

1-oz Krug = $1185

Engelhard Prospectors = $20

1/10 oz GAE's = $135 to $145

10-oz silver bars = $190

100-oz bars (mainly Engelhard) = $1850.00

I did not look at all of the prices while I was at the show. These prices were some of the prices that I wrote down. They also had numismatic pre-1933 gold and numismatic silver as well as some Kennedy halves, Merc Dimes, Walking Libs. I am guessing that there were about 150 tables total at the show.

The show started at 10 AM. I got there about 5 min. after the show started. The coin show also continues tomorrow and Sunday. I plan to go back to the show tomorrow (Saturday) to find some more '70's silver art bars.

This is a great reference, Josey, thanks so much for jotting these down. Man oh man, $1,185 for a Krug. How times have changed. If prices continue falling, I'll have to nip over to some shops this week.

I plan to go back to the show today to see if I can find more silver art bars. Since the spot silver price took a nosedive yesterday, then maybe some of the dealers at the show will drop their silver premiums by $0.50. I will see once I get there.

I came back from the 2nd day of the coin show. I noticed that the premiums on the gold and silver coins and bars that I saw yesterday have not changed at all despite the spot prices taking a nose dive yesterday. There was one exception that I saw when one dealer was pricing his .999 generic silver at $18.00. The coin show continues tomorrow but I do not plan to go tomorrow (Sunday).

Overall, this coin show was good for me during the 2 days I was there because I was able to find and buy a few silver art bars that I was looking for and I found some silver art bars that looked very interesting. I was also able to discover another new local coin dealer that I might check out later when I get a chance.
