Arizona to allow concealed guns without permit

PHOENIX — Gov. Jan Brewer has signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state to not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Brewer’s office says she signed the bill Friday. It takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, probably putting the effective date in July or August.

Alaska and Vermont now do not require permits to carry concealed weapons.

Eliminating Arizona’s permit requirement will allow people 21 or older to forego background checks and classes that are now required to carry a concealed weapon.

Supporters say the bill promotes constitutional rights and allows people to protect themselves from criminals. Critics worry it will lead to more shootings as people with less training have more access to guns.

More states should do the same. This a rare piece of good news. Thanks for posting.

Bravo, Brewer.

This will be extremely beneficial considering that AZ is a border state.

Wait a minute...

Under the old law, with a CCW, we were a ' not required' to notify state.. i.e., if you delt with LEO, you were not required to notify the officer you were carrying unless you believed that it would be reasonable and prudent to do so.... under the new law, ANY TIME you deal with LEO, you ARE required to notify the officer that you are carrying, and IF the officer requests, you MUST surrender your firearm for a NIC check on it... in some cases, the officer has UP TO 3 DAYS to perform that check, and it is your responsibility to go and pick the firearm up, and PROVE ownership.....

1) you can be disarmed for no other reason than a LEO wants to... 2) You MUST be able to prove that you own the firearm to get it back.. sounds to me like a disaster waiting to happen.....

Why not both: more shootings of criminals?
