I planted tulips last fall in my front step area, and now I see a mouse is eating the shoots & bulbs! He's burrowed a hole under my front landing (concrete atop of dirt) and is destroying my new tulips! I actually saw the mouse, at least I thought it was a mouse. It scampered away under the front step when I opened the door. (no long tail like a shrew or something).

Hubby tried putting baited mouse traps out, and that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Do you have a cat? Where I used to live I had severe rodent pressure. Getting a cat went a long way to solving that problem.

Also, you need to destroy their habitat. Rock walls with junipers make great nesting areas for rodents. Just ask me how I know...

As suggested a cats a great varmint hunter, works best if slightly feral and not constantly feed from the household.

May I also suggest trying to bait the traps you currently do have with peanut butter. The chunky type rather than smooth seemed to work best n my experience.

No cats, I'm allergic to them. We had peanut butter on the traps earlier, and no takers.

Now we've got poison out next to the hole, it seems to be getting eaten...

Get a 10" bucket, fill it about 4 to 5 inches of water. Get a dowel, 16 oz soda bottle , cooking oil and some grain or peanut butter.....

1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the soda bottle, slide the dowel thru the top and new hole. Lay the dowel and bottle across the top of the water bucket.

2. Put some choice vittles on the center of the soda bottle.

What you have just made is a spindle thing-ma-jig... The mouse walks on the the soda bottle, spins and falls off in the water. The water has to be deep enough that it cant touch bottom, and it drowns, but not high enough that he can get out the top. The spindle has to be able to move freely. You might have to make a ramp up the water bucket.

No poison to kill your dogs when they chew on dead mouse!.

Wow! That is a pretty neat idea!
If you try this MN, I'd love to know if it works for you.
