Snippet:

Sheriff Arvin West of Hudspeth County, the third largest county in Texas has told his citizens to arm themselves, that he can no longer provide protection for them against spillover violence in the border areas... Texas is a robust state to say the least, the shame here is that they have been abandoned by the federal government and the entire Obama administration including Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Home Land Security. Texas is not alone, New Mexico and Arizona are also in the line of fire, literally. All three states have requested federal assistance in deployment of National Guard troops to the border regions and in keeping with true Obama fashion, they either received no answer or were turned down.

Hudspeth Co is a HUGE county with no tax base. It's over 4570 sq miles with about 3300 people living in it.

For comparison - That's over TWICE the size of Rhode Island with only 1545 sq miles....
I woud venture to guess that there is not much law inforcement there to begin with.

Really all he's doing is telling folks to watch their backs.

I don't understand it. Instead of deploying (or requesting) the national guard, why not demand an expansion of border guards? It would provide new jobs and help with the problem. Requesting the National guard is a slippery slope to the violation of Posse Comitatus, no?

The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 5122) effectively killed what was left of Posse Comitatus.

Frankly I can't think of a better use for the mil than to secure the border, however I'm not too keen on the 100 mile buffer as enforced right now.

If we faced problems like the people in that area, my wife would be strapped every minute of every day.

The solution is for the goobermint to get the hell out of the way and allow citizens to patrol the border themselves. If they did, the problem would go away in two weeks.

I guess we should turn back to the pages of Rome in our history books and just remind ourselves how well it turned out for them, when its borders were guarded by those non native to Rome itself.

Natl. Guard troops are State troops wheras BC are FEdS. I would prefer State citizens (NG)

Scary prospect, but likely very true.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm Canadian, so there is lots to learn yet.
