Whoa!!! Those real time "cost of war" numbers are moving very quickly but probably not as quickly as the National Debt clock number.

That is completely ridiculous.

Afghanistan alone is clocking over at about the rate of 2 troy oz's of gold per second. There is not enough gold in the treasury to support this, so you can only conclude that the 'war' is being waged on credit alone, supplied by willing bankers operating fractional lending schemes.

Recipe for disaster.

We should go back to the time when countries could only wage war out of treasuries, and ban this notion of waging war on credit. The enormous scale and devastation of big wars like the Napoleonic Wars, ACW, WW1,2,3 etc ... only possible thanks to credit lent by willing co-conspirators.

War is a god-send to the banks.

Can't repeat that often enough! Maybe there should be an Afghanistan index, similar to the skyscraper index. The hubris of empires seems to be at it's greatest point when they decide to invade Afghanistan.
