View Full Version : fluoridated SALT - not indicated on salt containers

I have long known about the dangers of fluoride in water, though not the extent of it,
but had no knowledge of fluoride put into salt until now. This is frightening information.

The number of people in the world exposed to fluoridated salt exceeds the number exposed to fluoridated water!
Further, there is NO notice of the fluoride content on the salt containers in most countries.

I've been looking at salt containers today, and NONE of them show any indication of fluoride content.
One would think this meant the salt does not contain fluoride - but it means the fluoride content is not shown.

Several countries are already adding fluoride to salt. If you live in parts of Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, France, and Scotland, your salt is most likely fluoridated, unless you use natural sea salt. The countries that currently require fluoride to be added to salt are:

* Austria
* Columbia*
* Costa Rica*
* Czech Republic
* France
* Germany
* Grenada
* Hungary
* India
* Jamaica*
* Lebanon
* Japan
* Mexico
* Okinawa
* Scotland
* Spain
* Switzerland
* Uruguay

*The law in these countries requires that all salt be fluoridated.

You aren't safe if your country isn't listed. A worldwide movement exists to push salt fluoridation, and many salt manufacturers add fluoride, whether required by the country of sale or not. Be sure to read the label before purchasing any salt.

Unless the public campaigns against it, you can assume that salt fluoridation will become a requirement within the next few months or years. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a subsidiary of the World Health Organization (WHO), actively supports the application. In this day of so-called harmonization of rules regarding foods and supplements, what is pushed by WHO is rapidly becoming law in all countries. The United States, through the FDA, is an active participant.

I have been using mediteranean sea salt from Spain, obtained from Trader Joe's, for use in preparation of Kimchi.

I emailed to TJ's yesterday inquiring about the fluoride content of the salt but have so far received no response.

If anyone knows of a more reliable source to inquire, let me know.

ImaCannin, thanks for your post.

I called and had a long conversation with Kirk at Real Salt today, after reading your message.
According to him, the RS is simply pure sea salt from an old ocean bed, that has had nothing added to it.

The fluoride content of RS is .00138%, 13.8 ppm. Fluoride is a salt, consisting of fluorine and one other element.
Kirk did not know what fluoride compounds are in the Real Salt. I would be interested to know what they are.

Seawater contains 13 ppm of fluorine, at 3.5 percent salinity.

I am going to try the Real Salt, and will post about the Trader Joe salt when they get back to me.

Another source of flouride is water lines. I had samples of my well water tested and it showed that it had flouride in it, about 2/3 of the maximum allowed by the government (which is probably waaaaay too much).
I'm on high ground above any other residences and the aqufier is on USFS land. Unless flouride exists naturally down there, it must have come from the water lines. My well is quite a distance from my residence and even farther to the cistern. Water from my well travels up about 500 feet of PVC pipe inside the well and then through about 1400 feet of 1 1/4" black poly tubing.
I did a search on flouride in black poly tubing and it seems that flouride is a very common ingredient in plastics.

Wow, that is shocking. I have always thought that because I have a well I am safe from fluoride. I use reverse osmosis for my drinking water, but my showers consist of well water.

My water lines are new. Presumably the leaching process from plastic tapers off in time. Since my lines are so long, I have to pump for over a half hour before I get water that hasn't been sitting in a plastic pipe for a long period of time.

I make my own bottled water; after the well has flowed a couple hours for cistern filling or irrigation, I fill a dozen glass gallon jugs. I figure that water that hasn't been sitting in piping for a week has much less flouride.

Sending a water sample to a lab is a good idea.

Thanks for posting that article. I have some of that himi stuff, but have never used it. Glad I didnt!

I use Real Salt, mined in Utah. I just called them to ask if they add fluoride to their salt and they said no, that their salt is just how it is in the ground, it has nothing added to it, no fluoride, iodine, or anti caking agents....

We also use the salt licks they have for animals. My sheep and goats love it!

They offer free shipping on 35.00 + order.

Thanks so much for these links. I just received my order which consists of some for now, and some for SHTF storage for later. I love the package that they came in - good for storage. And they gave me 2 small shakers to share with a friend. I am going to give one to a friend tonight, and a friend tomorrow.
