Islamic website warns South Park creators face retribution over 'stupid' depiction of Muhammad

A radical Islamic website has warned the creators of South Park they face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear costume on the U.S. cartoon.

Abu Talhah al Amrikee wrote on revolutionmuslim.comthat the decision by Trey Parker and Matt Stone to caricature the Prophet was "stupid." He wrote that they would "probably wind up like Theo van Gogh," the Dutch filmmaker who was murdered in 2004 after making a documentary on violence against Muslim women.

"It's not a threat, but it really is a likely outcome," wrote Mr. Amrikee. "They're going to be basically on a list in the back of the minds of a large number of Muslims. It's just the reality."

Over still photographs of Mr. Parker, Mr. Stone, Mr. van Gogh and others, the website ran audio of a sermon by the radical U.S.-born preacher Anwar al-Awlaki.

According to CNN, the sermon, recorded some time ago, talks about assassinating those who have "defamed" the Prophet Muhammad -- citing one religious authority as saying "Harming Allah and his messenger is a reason to encourage Muslims to kill whoever does that."

The clip ends with a warning saying, "The Dust Will Never Settle Down."

However, Mr. Amrikee, the author of the post, told CNN the post was meant to show that anyone offended could write letters of protest.

Mr. Amrikee said the purpose of including the sermon was to remind Muslims that insulting the Prophet was a severe offence for which the punishment in Islam was death.

South Park last week celebrated its 200th episode, revisiting its most controversial storylines, taking aim at celebrities including Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey, Bono and Barbra Streisand.

Muhammad was also depicted in a bear costume, giving advice to other public figures about how not to be insulted or offended by other people practising free speech.

One of the founders of revolutionmuslim.com,Younes Mohammed, told CNN last year he saw nothing wrong with Americans dying in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "I don't think it was wrong. I think it was justified," said Mr. Mohammed, adding he was not encouraging violence on U.S. soil.

Mr. Mohammed said he would like to see a Muslim world, saying, "We're commanded to terrorize the disbelievers and this is a religion.... The Koran says very clearly, in the Arabic language ... terrorize them. It's a command from Allah.

"I define terrorism as making them fearful so that they think twice before they go rape your mother or kill your brother or go onto your land and try to steal your resources."

PREVIOUSLY, ON SOUTH PARK. . .

On July 4, 2001, South Park aired an episode called Super Best Friends, above. In it, the founders of the world's great religions, including Muhammad, form a crime-busting team of superheroes. Muhammad was depicted repeatedly throughout the show, which -- truth be told -- caused barely a ripple when it first aired, except in London, where a late-night rerun, years later, sparked anger from a radical Muslim website there. When the time came for the inevitable sequel to Super Best Friends -- post-9/11 -- Comedy Central, South Park's parent network, insisted that Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone not depict Muhammad directly. Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone dug in-- even threatening to quit the show at one point -- but eventually relented. The 2006 episode Cartoon Wars featured the return of the Prophet Muhammad, but instead of a likeness of the prophet, Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone showed a blank screen with the scroll, "Comedy Central has refused to broadcast an image of Muhammad on their network." Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone fought hard to depict Muhammad in Cartoon Wars, but it was a losing cause. "We fought and fought and fought, but the network was just like, 'We're not going to show Muhammad,' " Mr. Parker said. Another South Park moment showed the prophet riding a donkey, his face and body obscured by a black bar with the words, "Censored by CBC." (Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone were having a little fun at Canadians' expense, and not for the first time.)

I think I get it.

Southpark:
-First episode features Jesus fighting Santa clause.
-Another episode portrays Moses as a crazy floating head that wants popcorn necklaces.
-Mohammad can't be shown.

Google:
-Ok to automatically show "Christianity is bullshit" as a common search result
-Ok to automatically show "Judiasm is bullshit" as a common search result
-"Islam is.." comes up blank, because of a "bug" that's not sorted out for another month after it's noticed.

My city:
-Local Muslims advertise for people to come to their mosque one night a week to watch videos explaining how the Christian beliefs are messed up.
-Local Christians advertise for people to come to church to hear how muslim beliefs are messed up... oh wait... no they don't, and there's about a 0% chance they'd be allowed to.

Freedom of speech is great! (just don't talk about the muslims you racist bastards)
