Police in Malmö are convinced of outside adult involvement after a pair of sisters aged 3 and 7 were caught stealing clothes at a supermarket in the city on Friday.
"It must be a record, I've never come across a three-year-old thief before," police inspector Mats Attin told news website nyhetskanalen.se.
The junior thieves were stopped as they tried to slip passed a pay desk at a Citygross supermarket. Staff found children's clothing worth 700 kronor ($100) hidden under the girls' clothes, and under the three-year-old who was sitting in a stroller.
"We are convinced there was an adult involved in this since the clothes weren't even the right size for the girls; they were for even younger children. But nobody saw them entering the store with an adult," said Mats Attin.
When police drove the girls home to their family, their parents said they thought the children had been out playing in the yard. As their was no proof of adult intervention, the case was handed over by the police to social services officials.
