A Florida man said his quick-typing 14-year-old daughter has topped 35,000 text messages a month twice in the past year. UPI.com reports.

Brad Cox of Clermont said his daughter, Emilee, peaked with 35,463 text messages sent and received in June, averaging about 1,182 messages per day, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Cox said the ninth grader's texting slowed slightly just before Christmas when she wore out her phone from typing and switched to a new provider with a new phone that lacks a keyboard.

That's a LOT of texting. BUT, what most don't understand is when she receives/sends a text and carbon copies people, each and every cc received or sent is counted as a text. So, if I cc'd 30,000 people, with one text message, they would say I sent 30,000 texts.

And to think my son complained that his daughter was averaging over 10k a month. I'll have to send him the link. ;D

She would probably fall ill if her father were to take her "toy" away.....

The Future Of America..........I already wrote about this elsewhere.

Whats even funnier is that she still used less bandwidth than someone who gabbed for 1000 minutes a month.

And somehow the phone companies charge people more for text messages.

Assuming each of her texts were things like, "LOL, Hehe, Where R U?"

She probably averaged lets say about oh 100 bytes per message including the preamble.

So that's 100 x 35,000 = 3,500,000 or 3.5 Megabytes.

I've used about 450 bytes up to here.

So that's 450 x 35,000 = 15,750,000 or 15 Megabytes.

Which is not a whole heap of a lot of bandwidth for one month.

Now consider your average GSM voice user.

Lets say you gab for 1000 minutes a month. And I know I have easily exceeded this a few times.

Consider a slow and horrible voice channel, say 8kbps or so.

So:

8 x 1000 x 60 x 1000 / 8 = 60,000,000 or 60 Megabytes of bandwidth a month.

If the subcriber puts you on a higher bandwidth channel say 15~25 kbps for a nice clear call. (This almost never happens in dense metro areas)

Then you're using even more bandwidth.

Don't even get me started about Data plans. I read somewhere that T-Mobile caps you at 10 GIGABYTES a month, then throttles you back to a couple of megabytes a day.

Remember the days of analog cellular? When you got a nice clean 16KHz wide FM channel? The quality of the call was EXCELLENT. It was even better than a POTS line.

Then the cellular companies said, "Hey Mr. Customer!" We're gonna make everything BETTER with digital!! WOOHOO!

Then everyone got a shitty 8kbps voice link as the cellular companies jammed as many phones into as many hands as possible. And the quality keeps going down.

And yet they somehow charge us more for the same shitty service.

As for the kid?

I'd call the cell phone company and cap her at 100 messages per day lol.

At 16 hrs/day (taking off 8 for sleep and whatever) this is 73.875 messages per hour, or 1.23 per minute. All day. Every day. Even if it's just "LOL" when does she have time to pay attention to the world around her?
