Bad batch 'ruled out' in flu jab sickness
The maker of the flu vaccine implicated in a rash of child sickness across Australia - and possibly one toddler's death - says a "bad batch" is not involved.

A spokesperson for Melbourne-based pharmaceutical company CSL says a check of available batch numbers listed on adverse reaction reports had indicated no single batch could be responsible.

WA health authorities have received more than 250 reports of child sickness linked to the vaccine.

GPs nationwide have been told to temporarily stop administering the vaccine to children aged under five.

"CSL is continuing to work with the Therapeutic Goods Administration and WA Health to urgently investigate the adverse event reports," the CSL spokesperson said.

"What we have been able to analyse so far indicates that it is not batch related ... our evidence shows it was not a bad batch."

The spokesperson said CSL was working to finalise numbers on how many doses of its FLUVAX vaccine were sent to WA.

WA was the only State to offer a specific program offering the injections for free to healthy children under five, which may account for its higher rate of adverse reactions compared to other states.

Just think about that last paragraph for a second and let it sink in what is being said there. Change the word "rate" to "number", or in fact don't change it from rate it doesn't really matter to the implications here and they are scary. If you immunize more people you get a higher rate of illness. Rate is a ratio but if the ratio goes up instead of staying at a steady rate as they are saying......

HEALTH officials have confirmed for the first time that children in Victoria were treated at hospitals after having convulsions following their seasonal flu jabs this year.

Victorian Health Department spokesman Bram Alexander said a review of records had revealed that a ''handful'' of children were taken to emergency departments across the state with febrile convulsions - fits or seizures due to high fever - after having flu injections.

He said all the children had recovered and there were ''no ongoing issues''.

A spokeswoman for the federal health department said last night that all children over six months should be vaccinated against swine flu, as it was expected to be the predominant flu this year. But she declined to be drawn on whether healthy children over five should have a seasonal flu jab, saying it was the parents' choice.

A spokeswoman for the maker of the flu vaccine, CSL, yesterday ruled out the possibility of a ''bad batch'' being responsible for the cases in WA. She said a check of adverse reaction reports had shown they were not linked to any single batch of the vaccine.

WA is the only state to offer free seasonal flu vaccinations to all children under five.

Professor Peter Collignon, an infectious diseases expert at the Australian National University, said a possible explanation for the severe reaction was a brush with swine flu last year, which could make the body more likely to react aggressively to an injected dose of the vaccine, which includes the swine flu strain.

New Zealand children have suffered convulsions from a flu vaccination following reports of similar reactions in Australia.

Last week, the NZ Ministry of Health advised doctors against using Fluvax on children.

On Wednesday, New Zealand's Health Ministry chief adviser for child and youth health Pat Tuohy told politicians five children had been reported to have suffered febrile convulsions in New Zealand since Friday.

Australia's chief medical officer had already suspended seasonal flu vaccinations for children under five following concerns stemming from a significant rise in the number of Australian children developing a fever after receiving the vaccine.

Two-year-old Ashley Epapara was found dead in her cot on April 9, the day after she and her twin sister were given the seasonal flu vaccination by private Brisbane GP. The case continues to be investigated.

As of 6pm (AEST) on Tuesday, Queensland Health had received 95 notifications of Queenslanders who'd had adverse reactions after receiving the seasonal flu vaccine.

Of those 95 cases, 41 related to children aged five and under.

And in Western Australia, flu shots have caused adverse reactions in 251 children under five.

Ok so like an earlier article they are including 2 different locations into one report to hide the problem. So another 95 kids in Australia and now problems in New Zealand. SO what is approaching 400 kids so far reported.

Also the vaccine contains the swine flu but I think I mentioned that already.

Abstract



Vaccination policies in Australia need to be scrutinised because the use of a medical intervention in the prevention of infectious disease has serious health and social implications. Deaths and illnesses to infectious diseases were significantly reduced due to environmental and lifestyle reforms prior to the widespread use of most vaccines in the mid-20th century. Mass vaccination campaigns were adopted after this time as the central management strategy for preventing infectious diseases, with many new vaccines being recommended in the National Immunisation Program (NIP). The implementation of mass vaccination programs occurred simultaneously with the development of partnerships between academic institutions and industry. The Australian government’s NIP, like all member countries of the World Health Organisation (WHO), is recommended by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI). This is a partnership with the WHO and UNICEF that includes the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Rockefeller Foundation, the United Nations Development Fund (UNDF) and other private research institutions. All members of this public-private partnership influence the development of WHO global health policies.



It is important that independent research is carried out to assess whether all the vaccines being recommended today are safe, effective and necessary for the protection of the community. It is also important to have comprehensive evidence that it is safe to combine multiple vaccines in the developing bodies of infants. The framework for undone science is used to analyse the Australian government’s claim that the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the risks. Whilst the government claims serious adverse events to vaccines are rare this is not supported by adequate scientific evidence due to the shortcomings in clinical trials and longterm surveillance of health outcomes of recipients. A close examination of the ‘Swine Flu’ 2009 vaccine and the vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), intended to prevent cervical cancer, shows shortcomings in the evidence base and rationale for the vaccines. This investigation demonstrates that not all vaccines have been demonstrated to be safe, effective or necessary. It also concludes that the government’s claim that the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the risks cannot be sustained due to the gaps in the scientific knowledge resulting from unfunded research and the inadequate monitoring of adverse events after vaccination.

They have really been flogging the Vaccine horse here. The BS is eye level deep. We've been hit this week about the zika and why there is no vaccine. Some one died of this "non lethal to adults" disease Zika this week. Vaccine rates have skyrocketed in my State recently. Leading the nation. wooo oooo Go State!

Since the government bought in the benefit restriction. The money is worth the damage. Full community vaccination is next. Everyone will have to get vaccinated. I can see needing to have specific vaccinations for insurance to work or to work for some companies, even as contractors. Mandatory flu in the least.

Actually, that is an idea. I think that maybe it does need expanding, if you get a benefit. hmmmm.

something the Crazz guys beat on is how 70% of AU's media outlets are Murdoch owned*. That's an obscene concentration of power over the "news" (information, repetition, omission, promotion, smear, etc) which Aussies are fed.

* one thing I'm unclear about when they claim that Murdoch/70% thing, is how it's measured... like, # of media entities, or actual circulation/"consumption" levels. Some media outlets (newspapers, TV news programs, news/talk-oriented radio shows, etc) catch millions of eyes/ears, while others < 100K... that would be the best measure of course.
