I've read some good books lately, both fiction and nonfiction. It would be nice to have a subforum to discuss literature. Anyone else agree?

to go along with that does this software have the capability to upload pdf books so we could have a "digital library" of sorts??

Awesome idea...

Would there be copyright issues?

Admittedly, I don't read that much, I just don't have the time. I'm too busy building radio interviews for vornetwork.com . But I think that would be a great section, I'd also ask that audio books could be added for those of us who spend a lot of time in our vehicles.

I'd support it if enough people support it as well.

A thread titled "What are you reading?" will do the trick. Most forums I visit have one and they are good. I buy books recommended off them all the time.

I once built up a good classics thread.
It was a how to manual full of direction.
It bothered some people. ;D

@ GD, you can find audio books/info everywhere online,
some excellent stuff for free, but most good stuff has
copyright issues, you can find that too, just search.

The Learning Company has excellent material.
You name it they have it.

I only do the historical podcasts on long drives.
It is hard learning listening in your car though, nothing
like reading and going to a good scholarly library,
you miss a lot in the car, but many good history lessons
still, serve as review, last two summers did a lot of that.
if I showed you the titles, 15 hours + a week,
most you forget, lol . It is hard to concentrate
driving and listening. No note taking, etc . What would
students remember with no note taking and direction ?

Wildcard had a great find, really enjoyed that.

And I just got a new deck, no more mp3 player, lol .
Before I was burning CD's. Now my new deck has
a usb on it and it works amazing.

You have my support. It should be divided into fiction and nonfiction though, of course.

The easiest, and legally safest way would be to have links to .torrents.

Maybe a general art/culture subforum.

If it doesn't get its own sub-forum, put it in a place that doesn't have a big page turnover, like the lounge. Or ask to have it stickied.

I think it's a great idea!

Project Gutenberg is the best online source for old literature.

I don't know if there would be enough interest for a whole sub forum devoted to literature. I think at this time the best thing to do would be to simply start a thread in whatever existing sub forum relates closest to the book you would like to discuss, i.e. The Creature from Jekyll Island could be discussed in the Finance or Politics section. Or like Desolation LineTrimmer recommends, a "what are you reading now thread" would be good. If you make one in the Lounge, I'll sticky it. If there's not enough interest, I'll unsticky it later.

I'm intrigued by some of the ideas on building up a digital library here, I will forward this thread to JQP to see if it's possible, and how it might be set up.
