Well I'm put a care package together to ship to our friends fighting for their lives in SA. I'm gonna send camo's, thermals, 95% just clothing. All of the bastards want HUGE amounts of money to ship there.
Does anyone know someone that can ship stuff that won't cost more than the package?

DHL, Fedex, and UPS. The main three.
And to the Cuban, I have to try and who knows, I might even go there myself.

Hi General Of Darkness. Any chance they have a friend there in the U.S. military ? I just shipped a rebuilt transmission weighing 85 pounds to South Korea via APO and it cost about $120. The U.S. Post Office handles the overseas military packages. 70 pounds or less is their rule so I had to ship the tranny partially disassembled. Never had to do that in the past but in these tight times an extra sale is more important.
You might try calling a shipping specialist.
Probably not much help but that’s all I know to do at this time.
Best wishes,

Since you live on the coast General maybe you can find a cargo shipping company that already has stuff headed there and your shipment could just piggyback?

General, don't know how accurate this is, but it's from the USPS for 50 lbs to SA
http://ircalc.usps.gov/MailServices.aspx?country=10386&m=6&p=50&o=0
In fact I was just looking at the USPS International Large Flat Rate Box for $55.95 with a 20 lb limit, you could split it up into 2 or even 3 boxes, looks like it'd come out cheaper than regular mail

20 lb max, no tracking info... this one looks tricky.

The security of using the USPS international shipping is largely contingent upon how the mail system is run in the country that you're shipping to. I've shipped a number of packages to Kyrgyzstan and not a single one of them got lost or molested (opened, searched, and/or pilfered) - I was very pleasantly surprised. Now OTOH if you ship something to Mexico you can fully expect them to open your package up 'for inspection'. Other Latin American countries can have the same thing happen, sometimes the package never makes it to the recipient.
As for SA, I would ask whomever you're shipping the package to how likely it is for the package to make it to them without any problems (if mailed using the mail system). Considering how well the majority runs that country, I can guess the results.

better find a way to pack a piece or get real handy at fighting with machettes ;)
I've got some SA neighbors, let me talk to them to see about sending stuff over to specific people, might be able to get more information for you.
