When hundreds of tea-party protesters – including many elderly women – gathered outside a civic center where President Obama was giving a public speech Wednesday, they were surprised to be greeted by police dispatched in full riot gear.

Get those p*ssy's in riot gear scared. Have the entire crowd show up armed.

Kevlar doesn't stop rifle rounds, neither do those sh*tty plastic shields they hide behind.

I thought the plastic shields were for the rotten fruit tossed at them by granny.

Awoke, just imagine a line of pathetically embarrassed LEOs, dressed and armed for riot conditions, ordered to stand guard over a group of run-of-the-mill American moms, dads, kids, and grandma and grandpa, with their folding chairs and scooters, who look like they are decked out for a little league baseball game.

This video was great. But it's just so odd. They're singing, and they're all ages . . . granny is there.

It got me thinking . . . has there ever been a time or event in the last ~50 years of US history (other than now with the tea party) when the right wing* was protesting?

* I realize they're not all right-wing, but they're certainly not left-wing.

It seems like all of the protesting in my lifetime has been left-wing people protesting war or wanting unions, protesting corporations, protesting circuses, AIDS protests, etc.

Surely I am missing something? Educate me, because I failed at searching for examples.

Did I just see the Police marching in formation?

And yes k-os, it was definitely different.

The media is currently figuring out what kind of a label to stamp on their foreheads.

Yep. They marched in formation. I think they were embarrassed by their assignment and wanted to look more authoritative. It's got to be pretty humbling to show up to the church choir practice in riot gear.

What got to me about the video was the contrast between the riot gear guys and the grannies.

It seems like all of the protesting footage I've ever seen in my life (other than tea party) consisted of angry 20-30 year old people, and the potential for violence, whether it occurred or not. Hence, riot gear would not seem so out of place.

[April 21, 2010] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly had more security guards than guests at a recent Florida fundraiser. The Palm Beach Post writes Pelosi had 12 guards, mostly Capitol police, plus four Palm Beach officers, two sheriff's deputies and two police boats, adding up to at least 20 in her security detail. There were 18 guests.

Good catch. That's probably why I almost typed "soldiers" instead of LEO's.

awesome video.

It would be good though if somebody actually hired 2-3 black suburbans, dressed in black with fake ear phones, and came in formation right in front of these LEOs. And when they came all flashy and all tell them that you are bodyguards and protect peaceful american people from possible threats and displays of violence. ;)

Amazing, that needs some video to believed fully.

And if so, you know we've reached the end days of Rome in a very short span.

It's no surprise to see these corporate prostitues sell their values so cheap.
These whores are a joke and their only self esteem comes from being in riot gear.

I would imagine the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies around the anointed one are pretty busy these days. The only people that buy the charade now are the welfare crowd and prodigious white guilt, and the government's lame attempts to game the system aren't going so well. Mr. Jive Ass is such a Presidential abortion he's making W look like a saint and that's a tall order. Under that thin veneer of mulato hubris is nothing but anger and petty disregard for anyone and anything that is meaningful to our traditions and laws, of which he knows so little being a product of political engineering. I'm surprised there wasn't a provocateur in the mix to give the cameras a false flag - someone on the Obama team was asleep at the switch.

You don't mince words, do you? Right on.
