Abandoned Idaho cabin gets census visit

ROGERSON, Idaho -- The U.S. Census Bureau aims to count everybody this year, underscored by an unusual sight in Idaho's sparsely populated Owyhee County.

The Twin Falls Times-News reports an abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere was visited from one of its workers.

A gutted Oldsmobile was nearby, as was a rusty windmill, but there was little else but the grass and wind.

The structure, missing doors and windows, apparently hadn't been occupied in years.

Even so, a white 2010 Census bag was hanging from what used to be the place's doorway recently, as a worker took to heart the effort to count all of the roughly 11,223 residents of Owyhee County.

Under current estimates, they number fewer than two per square mile.

Owyhee County, in Idaho's deep southwest, is about four times as big as Delaware.
