of course GIM is nuked, so i can't find this. ::)
i remember seeing some sort of water purification element system (berkey?) that you could add to two 5 gallon buckets. i think one went in the top bucket, then there was a second with a spicket in the bottom one.
does anyone have a link to where i can buy such a system?

I don't recommend this system because of the plastic leeching poisons into your water. Splurge for the Big Berkey metal container.
*for an emergency or short term use it would be fine of course, but then you could just use old t-shirts, dirt, gravel, etc to strain your water and then boil it (and add a few drops of bleach, if you have it).

If you're looking for a DIY berkey:

Thats where you use the 5 gallon buckets and put berkey elements into it to make a filter instead of buying the pricey stainless berkey container.
EDIT: if you're worried about leeching like wildcard said get a big mylar bag and line it first. Should be pretty easy to do, shouldn't leach then...I'm not too worried about it, I have more important things to worry about then a little bit of plastic leaching, use a food grade bucket and you should be fine.

BPA poisoning and other crap is dangerous. Look it up!

Good deal chad, glad to help!
I know plastic is dangerous, I just meant if is the difference between a purifier and none at all I'm not worried about a little plastic. Might try that mylar liner though, It just came to me but I don't know why it wouldn't work. I'd think you could still get the elements to seal down with a liner in there like that. Have the buckets to add rigidity to the liner?
Just a thought...
