Most of you know Im not real smart

BP stands for British Petroleum that much I know....

What was a British company doing drilling oil in the states?

Don't we drill our own oil?

Anyone know who regulates mineral rights out in international waters?

And if the Deepwater Horizion was in international waters?

My thinking is that if it has anything to do with Mineral rights, the jurisdiction extends out to infinity.

To answer the question, BP is just a private company from the UK, it's not state owned by the UK.

A country's 'exclusive economic zone' extends out 200 nautical miles.

BP bought a lease for that well from the USG, dunno if auctions are held or what.

Like BP is "British" any more than Haliburton is "American." They are all multinational corporations who get to do whatever the fark they want. Then the locals pay for the mess. This is what is called a "free market" system.

Yes I am pissed off about this.
