The best part is the lame ass excuse. He hires a male prostitute to "lift his luggage". Is that what they're calling it these days? LOL

Family Research Council founder hires a Rentboy

George Alan Rekers, a prominent anti-gay activist and cofounder of the conservative Family Research Council, recently returned from a 10-day trip to Europe with a male escort who advertises on a Web site called Rentboy.com, according to a May Miami New Times article that was lighting up the liberal blogosphere and gay media outlets Wednesday.

Rekers told the New Times he hired the escort to help carry luggage, not for sexual purposes, and that he only learned his companion was a prostitute midway through the trip. On Wednesday, he published a statement on his Web site decrying the New Times story as "slanderous."

"A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip," the statement said. "Contrary to Internet stories based on this slanderous article, following medical advice Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery. ... Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant."

A professor of psychology at the University of South Carolina and a Baptist minister, Rekers is a leading proponent of therapy to "cure" homosexuality and has testified against gay adoption. He is a board member of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, which calls itself "a professional, scientific organization that offers hope to those who struggle with unwanted homosexuality."

The escort, who was identified in the article by the pseudonym 'Lucien,' told the newspaper that his services were enlisted through Rentboy.com, which helps clients "find gay escorts, male escorts, gay masseurs, male masseurs and learn how to become an escort."

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said the group had no specific knowledge of Rekers recent doings.

"Reports have been circulating regarding Dr. Rekers relationship with a male prostitute. FRC has had no contact with Dr. Rekers or knowledge of his activities in over a decade so FRC can provide no further insight into these allegations," he said.

"While we are extremely disappointed when any Christian leader engages in the very activities that they 'preach' against, it is not surprising. The Scriptures clearly teach the fallen nature of all people. We each have a choice to act upon that nature or accept the forgiveness offered by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and do our best to ensure our actions, both public and private match our professed positions," he added.

Oh, the hypocracy (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/05/family-research-council-head-h.html)

Escort says he gave 'sexual' massages to antigay activist

An antigay psychologist's recent trip to Europe with a gay male escort from Miami has captivated readers and viewers around the world.

Salacious stories have been published from South Florida to New Zealand, and it has been the butt of jokes by Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart.

And on Friday, the young escort at the center of the scandal spoke with CNN correspondent Randi Kaye for Anderson Cooper's prime-time show.

Jo-vanni Roman — a k a Geo and Lucien — told Kaye that psychologist George A. Rekers, an officer of the conservative National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) and a retired University of South Carolina professor, paid him $75 a day plus expenses to travel with him for two weeks in April to London and Madrid.

Included for the money: Roman, 20, would give nude "sexual" massages to Rekers, 61, every day during their trip, the younger man told Kaye.

Gay activists and bloggers have pounced on the story: Rekers, a well-known antigay activist, recently was paid more than $120,000 by Florida to testify in defense of the state's gay-adoption ban.

Earlier this week, Rekers acknowledged traveling with Roman but denied having sex with him. The professor said he hired Roman to carry his luggage during their trip.

Rekers did not respond to several e-mailed requests for comment.

Sounds incredibly naive, but he may have thought that he rented the boy to come along and carry his luggage... He could have been set up! 75$ a day seems incredibly cheap for an escort, but I really don't have any clue what the going rates for male prostitutes are... If he was setup I bet he will ask a relative to come along and carry his bags next time...

I'm sure Mr. Rekers had no idea his Rentboy was gay.
