My cat has a flesh wound (about the size of a nickel) on her back leg/ass. No idea how she got it. Looks like the fur was just tore/ripped off. I put anti-biotics on it but she just licks it off. Any ideas what to do???
Thanks,
rm

re-apply the ointment, & bandage it.

You might have to get one of those head cones to put around her neck until the area heals... if she keeps licking the wound

This worked on my dog with a similar wound. I mixed the ointment with a lil vinegar and pure vinegar around the wound. (as per ol country vet)

The ideal thing would be to get her on a course of oral AB's, 'course that'd mean a Vet trip, last year mine got in a fight, leg wound turned septic and developed into an abcess, LUCKILY found a Vet that's cheap (relatively speaking) took her there, ruled out a Fx, only an abcess, got a topical anti-septic (Betadine type solution) and a Rx AB suspension with an eye dropper, after about 3 days, a Noticeable Improvment, after a week Much better, by the end of the course, she was back to 110%, whole thing cost me $45
On a side note, I went with my neighbor the other day to take her terrier mix in, she (the dog) got an injection of Dextramethesone (steriod for an allerigic Rx) some opthalmic AB ointment, and a Rabies booster, total bill $145, at the follow-up appt, I took the dog in, Vet looked at her, "she looks good" nothing else, that visit was $43...lol

years ago I used to buy antibiotics at the pet store in the fish section
you could get Penicillin, Tetracycline and a few others..
Of course it said "not for human consumption" on it...But I took it anyhow.
it worked and it didn't kill me :)

Get potassium permanganate, it`s dark purple crystalls, open the bottle and make sure you don`t breath any of the dust because it`s highly corrosive when undiluted with water. Put about half a matchhead amount in a pint of water in a glass container, the solution needs to be dark beet color. Use this to wash the wound as much as needed. It`s an excellent anticeptic and totally non-toxic.
Keep the solution in the refrigerator. It will turn brown in a few days and then you`ll have make a fresh batch.

Lots of good suggestions already, you could always apply colloidal silver, only takes a few hours to make.

My dearest friend in life, my late cat once came home with about a nickel-sized piece of his hide torn off by another cat. The skin was hanging and the vet gave him some antibiotics both internally and externally.
I`m not sure but I think I did wash the wound with potassium permanganate, it`s the standard procedure in Russia to treat light human wounds, it is completely non-toxic and tastes ok, almost no taste at the concentration of beet color so a cat may have an easier time licking it off, make sure it`s not too dark(concentrated).

Hey Randy...........sorry about that buddy.......had to take my little female of a bitch to the vet about five years ago when her right rear leg was almost torn off............she now walks with a limp like I do and it cost me $750.00 to patch her up.........worth every penny, and more, to me.
Antibiotics is all that she needs, had she gotten her every two years shots for everything? if not then do it, leukemia can kill it in nothing flat.

let her lick it all she wants
that will keep it clean
and put a little Vaseline on it occasionally to keep it soft

Typically just what a human would get, PCN or a broad spectrum AB if your allergic to PCN, if the wound or infection doesn't respond, then a C&S is ordered to isolate the type of MO, then an appropriate AB could be ordered
