PONTIAC, Ill. -- Authorities in north-central Illinois found between 300 and 350 pounds of marijuana on a plane during a bust at Pontiac Municipal Airport.
Three people were arrested during the seizure. According to the Bloomington-Normal Pantagraph, the plane was a twin-prop Beechcraft with Texas ownership. Two men and one woman were arrested, but their identities weren't released. The newspaper said the two passengers, a man and woman, were from California, but the home of the pilot was unknown.
Pontiac Police say they responded to a call Monday at the request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Authorities say officers learned that a plane had landed at the Pontiac Municipal Airport under unusual circumstances. They say the plane's flight plan was altered and information on its take-off location and destination was fake.
Authorities say a police dog sniffed the plane and alerted his handlers that drugs were inside.
