That guy should let you keep it and note your exceptional honesty when he leaves feedback. If he was cool he'd ask you to send him half of spot or something.

Back in 1987 I bought 5,000 worth of one oz silver and when I got home I found one of the 20 oz plastic container with 20 oz of gold............went back to the store and the guy almost fainted and then gave me 200 of silver... the only reason that I did it is because in 1980 they gave me a lot of "cash" for the silver that I took to them, I know that they lost a lot of money on the deal.

alright, I have a story too

1975, working at a pancake house during my high school days. 5pm, boss left and I took over for the evening shift 5-9pm. I noticed a brown bag left OUTSIDE the store and brought it in. Low and behold there was cash, lots of it. I sifted through it and at the very bottom were checks made out to our store and so I knew it belonged to my boss. I called him and told him what I found. Needless to say he was very happy and came to pick it up. He said there was over 7,000 dollars in there. In 1975 you could buy a new cadilac with 7K.

He gave me a raise and told me if I ever needed a job to look him up. I can still tell that story to this day and would not even consider doing it any other way.

A few years ago, things weren't going to well in my life. I walked down to the local store, picked up a few items and walked home. Soon after returning home, I realized that my wallet was gone. Actually, it was a thin wallet with a money clip on the back. It had $125 in the clip, which at the time, was about all the money I had. I was frantic and I ran back down to the store. Right when I walked in, the cashier smiled and handed me my wallet. She said that someone had found it outside and they brought it in. Cash and everything in tact. I asked who it was, but she didn't know. I was down and out and the loss of that cash would have been devistating. I would never do anything to hurt anyone, because who knows what their situation is.

Chad, in hindsight to the system your a dumbass but in this world your a good person. Sticking it to the system is much different than sticking it to one of us (a real human). If this was a bank or other financial joint you would definitely be the aforementioned name. Mentioning this publicly means a lot to me at least.

Several months ago, cruising the Dairy section at Publix, on the ground in front of me was a check for $200 made out to "CASH", of course I turned it in to the manager, last year though, pulling into a parking lot, get out of the car, and at my foot on the ground was 3 $20's folded into quarters, picked it up,looked around, no one, proceeded into the store, used it later on towards a Gold purchase

Just remembered another instance, got $40 too much from an ATM, believe it or not, believe me I counted it 4 times.. :D, I withdrew a $1000, the ATM gave me 52 $20 bills back, this was early, I went back later that morning when the bank opened and returned it, the eggplant I returned it too acted like, no big deal, didn't even say thank you until I was walking off....disgusting ......your honesty doesn't count for much to most people these days....I felt better returning the $40 than I would've if I had kept it

One of my best friends found a wallet at the bottom of the ocean with three one hundred dollar bills in it. He's a SCUBA diver. The wallet had a license in it which was three years expired, meaning the wallet had been down there at least three years. He used the license in the wallet to find the owner and returned the wallet in person, with the money and everything. The owner of the wallet then promptly handed him one of the faded one hundred dollar bills.

Later that week he found a diamond on a dive boat. I find this rather miraculous considering the dive boat is white and wet. He told the captain who said that one of the passengers from the week before lost a diamond. My friend mailed the diamond to the lady who inspected it and said it wasn't her diamond. She then mailed it right back. He still has the diamond, and when he has it put into a ring it will be a very lucky lady who wears it.

It is heartening to know that there are people who will go out of their way to be honest and good, like my friend, and the people in this thread.

Chad,

You are NOT a dumb ass for doing the honest thing. Honesty DOES NOT make you dumb. Honesty makes you a better person.

+1 Karma for doing the honest and right thing. :)

I took a little vacation to Vegas two weeks ago. I has just arrived and went to the shuttle desk to arrange a ride to my hotel. As I was standing at the window I noticed a wallet sitting on the edge of the counter.
Without much hesitation :o, ok maybe a little, I gave the wallet to the cashier and said "I guess the person before me forgot this".
Standing across the street, waiting for my shuttle, I saw the person rush up to the counter and he sure looked relieved when they handed his wallet to him.
I proceeded to lose my ass in Vegas so I guess no good deed goes unpunished. Just kidding. I felt good returning the lost wallet.

I was picked to go through an electronics lab and decide what was worth keeping and what wasnt. Was told to throw all away that was deemed obsolete or the part wasnt needed any more even though it was brand new old stock.
I kept just about eveything as I dont beleive in corporate waste that taxpayers end up footing the bill (it was a lot of electronics about 17,000.00 worth of every electronic components imaginable complete with everything motorola made chip wise. ) Now when someone needs something I just direct them to where I store it and give away what they need.
The guy next to me in a different dept needed some old carbon resistors for a home made guitar amplifier, so he got a surprise one day when a large box full of every resister imaginable to use was fond on his desk. Tickled to death was he.

I returned a punk, gang banger type, kid's wallet once. Found it at a local parking lot, wallet had a marijuana perscription card, pictures of the kid with his thug buddies. Took me several hours making calls trying to track the kid down.

When I spoke to him, he seemed very nervous and apprehensive. Met him at that same parking lot. He shows up with 4 buddies, for a minute, I thought I was going to get jumped.

Handed the kid the wallet. He nervously looked around, and said "thats it?" I said yup, and turned to walk away.

He said "wait a second"...and tried offering me money. I declined.

The look on the kid's face was priceless. I doubt, in his lifestyle, anyone stranger has done a nice thing for him. He asked me how he could thank me. I told him to pass the kindness on, if he finds a wallet in the future.

Strange fact: I just woke up and I had a dream where I was at a construction site and dropped my wallet. I had stopped to chat with a couple of guys doing some welding on a rusted beam. I chatted with them for a few minutes then took off and only realized I had forgotten my wallet after I had gotten to the end of a long hallway. I turned around and got that sense of panic we all get when we realize we don't have our wallet with us (and we should). Anyway, I started to walk back to the two dudes welding, meanwhile I'm questioning whether they were really good guys or not. In other words, are they gonna rip me off or are these guys holding my wallet for me, when I hear this yell, look up and one of the welders tosses my wallet down to me. I thanked him, then quickly popped it open to check if all the cash was still there. It was, and I even thought, "wow, this seems like more 20's than I thought I had!" In all the commotion, I popped the wallet open too fast and a few cards and stuff fell out, so I had to lean down to the ground to pick them up and sort the stuff out in my wallet. Guess what I find on the ground just behind me under a bench? More money. Interesting dream.

Last spring I was flying to Wisconsin to meet my girlfriend's family for the first time. On the way there, when I went to take my jacket out of the overhead compartment, a gold ring with polished malachite set in it fell out. The ring was stamped on the inside as 18K gold. At first part of me wanted to keep it, but by the time I got off the plane I decided to give it to the lost and found.

When I came back at the end of the trip, I checked the lost and found, and the ring was no longer there. Hopefully somebody got their gold & malachite ring back.

Several years ago my wife and I were going somewhere, we rounded a corner and there was stuff strewn all over the street.
Looked like the contents of a ladys purse. We stopped and picked up all the items we could find including a ladys wallet. We drove to our destination( dinner or something I don't remember) and I checked the wallet for ID. I found a drivers license, several hundred dollars and little bags of white powder.

On the way home we saw a male and a female walking up the road looking all over the ground. I stopped and ask them what they were looking for. The woman said she had lost her purse. I checked the ID and gave it back to them. Needless to say they looked a little nervous. When I handed it to them I said your moneys all here and so is your powder. They about fainted.

I thought it was funny. Maybe you shouldn't keep your little bags of powder tucked in with your drivers license.

turns out it ended well. the guy was so amazed i actually called and told him about it, that he told me i could keep the gram if i wanted too, just send him $20 because that's what he paid for it back when. so, i got an extra gram for $20. i'm happy, he's happy, the world is a better place this sunday evening.
